Mi in Mi • Food Design Exhibition | Performance SEMINA

Project Overview

JOYY! Food Design X Social Design LVB

During Milan Design Week 2025 • Zona Sarpi, JOYY! Food Design joins as the Food Design Partner for the Zona Sarpi • Food Edition, curating a multidisciplinary project titled Mi in Mi — a celebration of rice culture through food, design, and art.

Mi in Mi is an immersive experience that explores rice not only as a food but as a universal language and design medium that sparks new intercultural narratives. Through a series of interactive events—exhibitions, creative and culinary workshops, performances, interviews, and open calls—JOYY! invites the public to rediscover the relevance of rice in contemporary life, connecting memory and innovation, tradition and experimentation. Each grain becomes a design element—a seed of reflection on the relationships between humans, nature, and culture. Mi in Mi envisions rice as a symbolic and emotional bridge—between East and West, past and future, heart to heart.

Featured Performance | SEMINA

In the rice-growing regions near Milan, seeds are sown in May and harvested in October. As the closing chapter of Mi in Mi, the performance SEMINA pays tribute to the sowing season. More than a performance, SEMINA is a ritual of renewal—a poetic blessing for the coming cycle. Inspired by a poem written specifically for this project in Chinese (translated into Italian), the performers enact the act of sowing through symbolic gestures that evoke a deeper connection with the land and the origins of food. This performance honors nature’s role in nurturing life and invites the audience to reflect on the cycle of growth, renewal, and the intimate relationship between humans and the earth.

Collaborations and Design

SEMINA is created in collaboration with Laboratorio Silenzio, a social promotion association made up of both deaf and hearing artists, working on inclusive performances and landscape-based art.

The performance costumes were designed and crafted by Ivan Wang, inspired by the symbolic figure of the scarecrow, a guardian of the rice fields. The costumes use natural-toned fabrics and materials, evoking a deep connection between people and the land in a simple, rustic language. Through this design, the performers transform into watchful guardians of the fields, merging with nature, and in their ceremonial movements, they embody the symbiotic relationship between humans, the land, and rice.
